Perimeter & Area: Pitches, Mats and Fan Zones - Class 5 Maths Worksheet
Find the perimeter and area of squares, rectangles and L-shapes with pitches, mats and fan zones, and see that the same area can have different perimeters.
Learning Objective
Find the perimeter of squares and rectangles, find area by counting squares and by length x breadth, find a missing side, find the area of a shape made of two rectangles, and compare area and perimeter.
Skills Practised
- Perimeter of squares and rectangles
- Area by counting squares
- Area = length x breadth
- Missing side
- Two-rectangle shapes
- Same area, different perimeter

- Walk the Edge: Count the units along every side.
- Count the Squares: Count the squares inside the rectangle.
- Fence a Square: Drag the answer into the goal.
- L-Shaped Zone: Count the squares in the L.
- Largest Turf: Tap the rectangle with an area of 24 square units.
- Fan Zone Area: Multiply the length by the breadth.
- Rectangle Edge: Drag the answer into the goal.
- Area or Perimeter?: Tap a job. Then tap what you must measure.
- Missing Side: Divide the area by the length.
- Two Rectangles: Find each rectangle's area, then add.
- Order the Areas: Put the rectangles in order.
- Same Edge, Different Area: Both have the same perimeter.
Note for Parents & Teachers
This follows the NCERT Class 5 chapter "Grandmother's Quilt". Perimeter is the length around a shape: 2 x length + 2 x breadth for a rectangle and 4 x side for a square. Area is the space inside, measured in square units: length x breadth. Different shapes can have the same area but different perimeters. Football fact used: a full-size pitch can be 105 m by 68 m.
